There are a few people that helped me by providing inspiration, guidance, instruction, physical help, and just all around support during my many car hobby years. I want to acknowledge them without actually using their names to protect their privacy:
My Uncle KM. I would describe him as a “mild” car guy. Not a hot rodder or modifier, but liked to a lot of his own maintenance and had a lot of good stories that got me interested in cars.
My childhood best friend, BRS who is still my best friend. That’s him in the pictures of the ’56 Chevy. He would ride over to my house on his Sting Ray bike, or simply cut through the back yards. We started off racing slot cars in the basement on a home made slot car drag strip. When I bought the ’56 for $35 from a guy up the street, BRS was right there helping me push it home (it was all down hill, thankfully).
A childhood neighbor and still very good friend, JW. 10 years my senior, JW was a hot rod builder who lived up the street. A tremendous guy. JW had incredible patience for the two kids that stood outside his garage and watched him work magic. JW introduced me to gas welding, fiberglass work, and gave us a SBC engine with a bad 13:1 cast Jahns piston. This became the engine for the ’56. My first SBC build!
