Here are a few of the “new and unusual faces” that showed up for the Memorial Day weekend 2014 Valley Cruisers Show. This event had a nice variety of traditional street rods, customs, antiques, sports and muscle cars, and more than a sprinkling of rat rods of various sizes. My personal favorite was
the “Subie-Ghia”, a VW Karmann Ghia fitted with a 200 HP Subaru flat-four water-cooled engine. The interior, body work, and paint appeared flawless, including the engine compartment. Another unusual creation was a VW beetle body, minus the front fenders, sitting on a front engine tube chassis with a 5 liter Mercedes V8 for power. The owner built his own plenum style intake manifold topped with 3 two barrel carbs. This car had a number of unique features, including a specially constructed independent front suspension, rear mounted radiator, suicide doors, and a chopped top.
Also catching my eye was a custom tow rig hauling 3 beautifully resto-mod’ed Mopar products. The builder took a ’49 Dodge truck cab and fitted it to a ’98 Freightliner chassis. The attached 3-car trailer also appeared to be a custom creation with matching paint scheme. All very nicely done.
