The goal of relocating the radiator to the rear was to get the heat away from the fuel tank, which was moved to the front, and also to reduce the amount of heat blowing onto the front of the passenger area.
Again, CAD was a big help. I first created a dimensionally accurate 3D CAD model of the new radiator. Next (in the virtual CAD environment), I positioned the radiator at the rear of the chassis and checked for interference with other objects, especially those that couldn’t easily be moved. Once I had the radiator in a good position, I then designed a support frame using 1″ square tubing.
The challenge, of course, is to get sufficient air flowing into the radiator when the car is in motion. I selected a large triple-flow aluminum radiator from Eastwood, and used the same 16″ fan that had previously been used behind a Corvette radiator that was mounted up front. Later, I also add an oil cooler which helps keep the engine temperature between 180 and 210 degrees F.
