In the summer of 2012, before I came to the conclusion that the main body had to come off for a thorough restoration, I did a fair amount of work at the front of the chassis building square tubing structures onto which I could mount (A) a Wilwood pedal assembly, and (B) a poly fuel tank up front. This allowed me to finally get rid of some of the ugliest work on the car. The old pedal and master cylinder arrangement was thrown together around the same time as the ZF transaxle install and the tilt nose conversion.
The new Wilwood pedal assembly was the reverse-mount style where three master cylinders are positioned above the pedals. This compact arrangement would be replacing a late 70’s Corvette brake master cylinder (with vacuum booster) and a Toyota clutch master cylinder. At one point, I considered remote brake fluid tanks that would be mounted somewhere outside of the foot-box area. Ultimately, I modified the steel tube frame I had just created so that the fluid tanks could be located in their normal position, mounted on top of the master cylinders. It was also necessary to create a pop-up box on the fiberglass footbox cover in order to provide clearance for the MC tanks.
