Cleaning up a big mess!
Brace yourself! If you admire the work that goes into high quality custom car builds, the images in this gallery may be hard to look at. In case you haven’t noticed yet, my restoration skill level and attention to detail during the earlier years of this project left a lot to be desired, and this was particularly obvious to anyone who got a close look at the chassis. A good portion of the work I did on areas of the car that are typically hidden from casual view was done in a “quick and dirty” manner. And, after nearly 35 years of modifications and tweaks like this, combined with the toll that amount of time alone can place on a car, it was clearly due for a bare frame, nut and bolt restoration. In hindsight, I would say the reason for the poor workmanship was due to several factors. The biggest simply being a lack of skills and experience when it came to completing tasks in a neat and professional manner. Another factor was lacking the funds required to purchase quality materials and tools. As a result, I would frequently use whatever scrap metal and cheap hardware I had on hand. My workmanship has improved significantly in the many years since that initial work was performed.
